World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.
If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it's upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.
Components
Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to give them a stat boost or to add an additional effect. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be used on devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using fewer Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level with normal methods.
A boost upgrade can change the attack or defence characteristics of the weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear, or by buying them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals each.
Each upgrade increases the probability that a higher-tier version of an item will be available in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve after a future reset.
Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a high risk that the item may be obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could destroy the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate chance of failure, and some upgrades that offer the benefit of being reinserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs buff the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in various ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 whenever you can.
You will often find in the endgame that putting Glyphs is the best method to upgrade your gear. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to reach higher nodes much faster.
Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced with no restrictions are the most commonly used. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and re-placed by using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a different Glyph with the same rank or higher rank, which will increase the value of the glyph.
Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of a Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use and also during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs as well as some rare Glyphs that can be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.
Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will require them to be put on your gear. Each Glyph will unlock a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes that are within a radius of the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.
Glyphs increase the number of nodes connected to them, which is why it is recommended to place Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Leveling
The item upgrade system allows players to boost the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items may be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each item level requires a different number of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times to increase their value, allows the player to modify their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants a buff if the player is repeatedly in or exits water. This item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. The upgrader for items lets players increase the level of their equipment (armor weapons, armor trinkets, and armor) above ilvl385 by presenting the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and upgrades to weapon items boost their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.
Each item can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade an item it is given an opportunity to fail. The rate of failure increases as you go over the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures will result in the item reverting to its original state, which will force the user to pay more for materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.
If an item isn't upgraded, the experience bar in the bar for growth will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it gained like crit chance, attack damage, or other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.
When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is computed each time an upgrade is made.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium products is equal to the base value of the upgrade. For example, a common equipment item could have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have a much lower cost for each additional upgrade.
Premium items might have different upgrade requirements than standard gear. For example they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and orons.
